Lodging and Facilities

At THIBS we have various facilities available for our researchers and guests. We have two bedrooms available in the main building each sleeping two adults comfortably. We also have a private cabina available for those who want to stay outside of the main house. The cabina can accomodate up to four people in bunks. For those that enjoy sleeping in a tent, we have plenty of yard space available for a small fee.

Accomodations at THIBS are somewhat rustic. Windows are screened, with no glass. Thus, there is no air conditioning, though fans are provided in all rooms.

There are two showers, and two flushing toilets adjoined to the outside of the house. One shower has a direct electric "suicide shower" type heating device, but most elect to shower in non-heated water.

The kitchen is available to all who stay at THIBS. It has two refrigerator/freezers, a sink, toaster oven, microwave and stove. You will find that the kitchen is stocked with all of the utensils that you may need to cook your own meals comfortably. The kitchen area is located downstairs in the main building, so early risers do not have to worry too much about invading other guests in the main house. Preparation of meals for a very reasonable fee can be negotiated without any problems, but must be figured out on site due to everchanging circumstances.

THIBS has a pretty well stocked library including many volumes on tropical ornithology and biology as well as pertinent scientific journal publications. We have some scientific data collection devices, ie. salinity refractometer, clinometer, as well as a printer available. There is phone service, but still no email as of yet, as there is no computer.
